It's like a movie, but there's not a happy ending // Every scene fades black, and there's no pretending // This little fairy tale doesn't seem to end well // There's no knight in shining armor who will wake me from the spell

ERIN PETERS
Congrats on your little sister
Honestly awkward introductions shouldn't even merit a mention with Ruby, they seem to be a given. What matters is Erin spent an entire month protecting Ruby from her nightmares and teaching her how to handle her own dreams, something that Ruby is immensely grateful for. Over the course of that month and their conversations both at night and elsewhere, Ruby has come to trust Erin a great deal and to see her like another big sister. Her guidance has been invaluable. She was the first person Ruby heard tell her that she should have gotten to be a child and didn't feel patronised by. Erin actually seems to understand, and she's not pushing Ruby to figure this out any one way. That means something.
MAEVE MILLAY
Reverse adopted mom
Maeve was one of the first people to greet Ruby on the ship and that initial familiarity kept Ruby gravitating her way as she got settled in. She's been nothing but kind to her, putting up wiht all her quirks, and though Ruby wouldn't have admitted it before the end of October, Ruby couldn't help but start seeing her as a motherly figure, and after December, the word 'Mom' has finally been said from Ruby's own mouth. She's not sure what having a mom is really supposed to be like, but now that she and Maeve have decided to be each other's family on the ship, she's happy to find out what this will be like. And, already, Maeve is doing better about not putting her own emotions too heavily on Ruby's shoulders than some adults in Ruby's old life, not that Ruby would ever put it like that.
CLARKE GRIFFIN
We're so bad at being roommates
They're not exactly close, but Ruby likes Clarke well enough. They've both kind of sucked at the roommate part of... being a roommate, at times, but they're both putting in some kind of effort now. Clarke is intense, from a world that sounds dangerous in a way very different to Ruby's own, and though Ruby doesn't pry she's seen the signs of the losses she's dealt with. She figures Clarke isn't so blind that she can't see the same in return. Either way, considering the first thing they both did was go for a weapon, there's much worse places they could be as roommates. Little do they know how opposed their current approaches to escaping the ship are!
SecUnit (MURDERBOT)
Special interest buddies
Despite an awkward first and embarrassing second encounter, Ruby actually really likes SecUnit. Now that they've gotten to know each other better Ruby feels like they understand how each other's brains work, in a lot of ways, and it's helped them click some. They both have an appreciation for different kinds of stories and enjoy sharing them, Ruby looks forward to their serials sessions and reading stories aloud to it from her own books. She feels safe around it, both physically and in terms of not having to be someone specific with it. Sometimes she doesn't even have to be a person and that's okay.
"PETER SMITH" (Prisoner #6)
Dad energy rising
Despite accidentally insulting Smith to his face about how old he looks, he still seems totally willing to take her under his wing a bit with hand-to-hand stuff and is generally kinder than he seems at first glance. She actually really likes him him and though she can't seem to help being a little shit sometimes, she's mostly on her best behaviour and knows he won't hold a little mischief against her. After Maeve and Erin she probably shouldn't have been surprised when she realised she'd started seeing him as a father figure, but some things never change—and either way, she's happy he sees her as family too. He's been a voice of reason more than once when Ruby has been struggling with her emotions, a good teacher, and Ruby isn't totally sure where she'd be right now without his input.
DARCY LEJEUNE
Not just a burden
Darcy and Ruby are only now starting to grow closer as friends, but Ruby has both a great amount of respect and concern for Darcy that both grow the more she gets to know her. It's not easy to look at someone and recognise some of the very same pitfalls you fell into at their age, while still having absolutely no ground to say anything about them considering you're still pretty damn entrenched in those very same patterns. But Ruby's already resolved to step over to the Darcy (& co) side of the debate on the boat, because she can't sit back and have no opinion anymore. She just can't. And if that means she might be there to stop Darcy making mistakes she's made, even just once... well, it'd be nice.
DIMITRI ALEXANDER
No more follow the leader
There's something familiar in Dimitri. Another young soldier with a story off to the left of her own, legacies to grow into, abilities that you never asked for and people depending on them and all of that context that's made them who they are now utterly stripped away. Dimitri is the first of the numerous teenagers whose problems rhyme with hers that feels like he echoes in the sense of leadership, of being the one everyone's eyes are on, being the one that even other people in your situation look to. There's something different about the guilt and pressure you feel, when you're meant to be the one leading. When if you screw up, it's not just your life on the line but the life of the people who depend on you.
Cassandra De Rolo
Older than I am
Cassandra initially reminded Ruby a little bit of Weiss—an upper-class sort of manner with an upbringing to match, an unfamiliarity with how to be someone her own age, even the implication she was once an heiress of some kind. The more she gets to know her, the more that impression... adjusts. She's not entirely sure where her impression of Cassandra sits, right now, but she does like her—it's hard not to after everything with the cookies, honestly.
Eleanor Lamb
A first friend
If Ruby had a nickel for every time she ended up an unusually socialised girl's first ever friend... Eleanor's an unusual girl, with a familiar love of tinkering, from a world that's grim in a whole separate way to Ruby's own, and though Ruby frankly made a mess of trying to introduce her to the ship she's tried to make up for it since by just being a good friend. That, at least, she's usually pretty good at.
Fio
Protect at all costs
Fio is a sweetheart, far too young to be subjected to all the horrors here on the boat and someone that Ruby is even more determined to protect than everyone else. She's deeply relieved that Fio seems to enjoy travelling by Petal Burst so much because that makes protecting her easier, if push comes to shove. Until such a time, though, it's just nice to get to share things like her favourite fairy tales and other moments of relative peace with her.
UNDINE WELLS
Lost and found childhoods
She's gone, now. The first person Ruby really knew that vanished. Undine and Ruby's worlds aren't the same, but they definitely rhyme. Loudly. Monsters and magic and more than your fair share of the weight of keeping your world safe on your shoulders, a childhood that never quite was, and dead friends who should never have had to die like they did. Undine gets it, they get each other, and they were going through similar (but not identical) journeys of figuring out what to do about the mark their worlds have left on them. Of trying to remember how to be a kid.

ACTIVE TIMES/PACE: UK (BST / GMT), but I stay up stupid late; speed varies from boomeranging to a few days most of the time.
BRACKETS/PROSE: Either depending on partner and what I’m feeling. Will match.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: Nothing to outright avoid, but warnings for anything relating to death by cancer would be appreciated.

IN CHARACTER

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: She's pretty physically affectionate by default, if mostly with people she knows at least a little bit, and will generally take well to it from people she doesn't hate.
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Let’s talk, but she's an experienced fighter who has like, magic shielding and also a giant scythe so.
RELATIONSHIPS: Let's talk. She's like 19 now so 17 to maybe mid 20s only, being played as a baby lesbian. She's not a very romantically focused girl, but... if something happens, open to it. When playing her from v9 it's going to be nigh upon impossible, though.
PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: No psychic powers, or psychic defences.
MAGICAL INFORMATION: Technically, what she has isn't magic, but she does have what is essentially magic shielding that comes from her soul and also break herself down to the molecular level to travel at high speeds. Also magic-y eyes that won't work here.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: Generally healthy.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: Child-soldiery stuff, though she doesn't see it this way exactly; teenagers start training to fight early in her world, even if they're not usually 'graduated' to 'real' fighting until they're 21.

OUT OF CHARACTER

BACKTAGGING: I’ll generally backtag as long as someone else is willing, don’t begrudge dropping older threads though either.
THREADHOPPING: Ask first.
FOURTHWALLING: Ask first, probably not though.
NOT INTERESTED IN:

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

VISUAL: 5’4", biracial (white-asian) girl with black hair that may actually be super dark red because it fades into visibly brighter red at the ends. Silver eyes, not grey, silver. Tends to wear gothic-lolita-eque clothing, with high necks and frilly shirts and corsets and poofy skirts, primarily in black/red/white. Is also now always wearing red dangly earrings, a black bow around her wrist, her sister's emblem, her own emblem, and a little red ribbon around her other wrist.
AURAL: Very high pitched, very expressive, full of youthful innocence but she can make herself sound surprisingly forceful.
OLFACTORY: There's a hint of roses that follows her everywhere she goes.
DEMEANOUR: Excitable, sweet, bouncy—she's just that kind of girl. She's been through a lot and you can see that in her eyes if you look hard enough, but she's also very good at staying optimistic, determined, etc.

CHARACTER
Name: Ruby Rose
True Name: Ruby Rose
Canon: RWBY (Volume 8, Episode 1 - right after the team splits up)
Age: 17
History: Wiki Entry, which is kinda super long there's 8 volumes already and she's the title character.

Powers/Abilities: Powers in RWBY are often confusing and contradictory in how they're depicted, there's a lot of 'rule of cool' going on, but the basics:

Aura: A manifestation of the soul that everyone in Remnant has, but not everyone has unlocked. Everyone's aura is a different colour, Ruby's being red, and how much aura someone has varies from person to person, but cannot be changed. When this pool of aura is depleted, it breaks, and you can no longer access these abilities until it recharges sometime later. Unclear if it's always up or has to be activated each time you need it, canon plays so fast and loose with that.
  • Shielding: Activated aura can be an always-on shield, until the owner takes sufficient damage or uses it enough to deplete it completely, at which point it breaks with a very dramatic flash of colour.
  • Attacking: Aura can be used to make weapons hit harder, or projected into a shockwave as an independent attack.
  • Extrasensory Perception: Essentially a danger sense, you can sense if an enemy is in the area. Not foolproof or entirely consistent.
  • Healing: Inconsistently treated in canon. Can sometimes heal injuries of various severities immediately, sometimes takes a lot longer. It does not prevent death, at all.
  • Semblance: Basically individual superpowers that are a manifestation of your aura. Ruby's is called Petal Burst, and for the longest time it was thought of as only a speed semblance because it allows her to move at super high speed; whilst doing so, she sort of turns into a blur of red that leaves red petals behind. She can carry other people in this state, and the effect will take on some of that person's associated colour too, as well as seemingly split herself into multiple pieces to move around obstacles and reform on the other side—though, if the object is unexpected, it can disrupt it. Past her canon point she has it explained to her that this is because her semblance is actually allowing her to disassemble herself (and any passengers) at a molecular level and reassemble at a chosen location. She's been seen carrying four people besides herself at once, but doesn't know she can do that yet, she's only ever tried one before by now.
Ruby also has a much rarer kind of power: silver eyes. She's able to manifest blinding streams of light vaguely in the shape of wings from her eyes, but this is going to be limited here in the game because technically, it only functions in the presence of the Creatures of Grimm, which are soulless creatures that are 'creatures of destruction'. So it's kind of at mod discretion if she'll ever encounter something along the same lines that it might work against, otherwise, it's essentially locked away.

She's also an adept fighter, fairly decent tactician, and extremely physically agile, able to pull off all sorts of wacky acrobatic stunts especially with the help of Crescent Rose, her scythe.

Inventory: All the pieces of this outfit; her weapon, Crescent Rose, which has a folded down transport mode, a scythe mode, and a rifle mode that would come with a mag of bullets already in; 3 more mags of bullets plus a mag of each Fire Dust (spews flame from the muzzle of Crescent Rose, Ice Dust (fires icicle projectiles from Crescent Rose), Gravity Dust (increases the recoil effect when firing the Crescent Rose, propelling Ruby to faster acceleration speeds), and Electric Dust (fires an electric projectile that briefly paralyzes the target); and her scroll which is essentially a phone.

Job History:
Student at Signal Academy
- Learning basic combat skills.
- Designing and crafting her weapon.
- Learning specialised scythe combat skills.

Student at Beacon Academy
- Being a bit of a prodigy who graduated to Beacon early.
- Learning more advanced combat skills.
- Learning how to apply her skills against actual Grimm in the field.
- Learning how to investigate Grimm activity, about the types of Grimm, etc.
- Learning how to work as part of a team and be a team leader.

Leader of Team RWBY
- Coming up with battle formations.
- Directing her team in the field.
- Making hard choices she doesn't want to have to make but has no other option.
- Trying to help Ozpin and the other adults in her world save it from Salem.
- You know, normal pseudo-magical girl stuff.

Official Huntress of Remnant
- Fighting Grimm.
- Arresting people, sometimes.
- Running other assignments that require armed back-up.
- Basically everything she was already doing, just official like.

Suppressions:
- Her own emotions in general, varyingly successful. Her character has been described as 'I don't have time for my emotions. I've gotta make sure that everybody else is okay' and that's generally how she approaches things. But the weight of all the choices she's had to make are weighing on her.
- Fear, pessimism, and the like—anything that makes it easy to feel like there's no hope. Ruby is aggressively hopeful.
- The fear of large crowds and meeting new people, varyingly successful.
- Grief, especially about her mother, successful up until recently. She's taken a knock because Salem acknowledged she met her mother and heavily implied she was who killed her. She compartmentalizes and internalizes and it will eventually break under enough pressure.
- Anger at her mother for leaving her/never coming back because she died, currently still successful.
- Her social awkwardness, often successful at this point, but mostly because she's around people she already knows well most of the time. Her dorkery leaks through, but that she doesn't mind with those people.
- Impulsiveness and stubbornness, varyingly successful, she tends to need people to rein her in to teach her some sense so she doesn't try to stay in a fight too long or rush into something.
- Acknowledging that being a Huntress is not the romanticised fairy tale she always expected it to be, not so successful these days. She was still truly excited to become an official huntress, but things are bad, and they keep getting worse.

Greatest Fear: Losing everyone she loves.

Greatest Desire: To be the fairy tale heroine in all her stories and save the world from Salem, one way or another, without losing more people than they have to (aka hopefully no one).

Greatest Regret: Not being able to save Pyrrha. There really wasn't anything Ruby could do that day that she didn't already do, and she has a lot of regrets from the two years since, but she regularly returns to this failure.
