Ruby "uh. Cat ears." Rose is important because we all know volume 1 Ruby Rose would say that shit with zero hesitation. She would imitate little cat ears with unironic enthusiasm to the horror of her teammates and be none the wiser. What we have all just now witnessed in this teaser trailer was the shift from cringy, non-self-aware 15 year old to cringy but extremely self-aware 17 year old.
You think volume 9 Ruby Rose would stand in front of Winter Schnee and try to awkward curtsy??? Of course not, she'd say something embarrassing and immediately want to die on the inside just like the rest of us. Volume 9 Ruby Rose knows the words that come out of her mouth are absurd but she still can't stop herself from saying them, she has reached Peak Teenager.

I think these scenes hint at how Ruby feels about Summer. It’s sorrow mixed with anger; sorrow for losing her mom so early, never getting to really know her; and anger for the pointless risk Summer took, especially if Salem was being literal about Summer saying the same words to her as Ruby did:
“we’ve seen that you can’t be killed.”
